Talbot Green Murder: Woman Shot Dead in Potential Case of Mistaken Identity

A 40-year-old woman, Joanne Penney, was found dead after being shot in Talbot Green, Rhondda Cynon Taf, on Sunday evening around 18:10 GMT. Police are investigating if she was mistaken for someone else.

A 42-year-old man from Talbot Green was arrested on Sunday in connection with the murder and is still in custody. Four others were arrested on Monday in Leicestershire. The four suspects traveled to South Wales in two cars and left the area shortly after the shooting.

The arrested individuals include a 21-year-old woman, a 27-year-old man from Oadby, Leicestershire, a 68-year-old man from Braunstone Town, and a 39-year-old woman from Leicester. All are being questioned by the police.

Police are still gathering evidence from the crime scene and have seized two vehicles for forensic analysis. The vehicles—a beige Nissan Note and a black Volvo XC40—were tracked traveling from Leicester to South Wales before the shooting.

Detective Chief Superintendent Ceri Hughes stated the investigation is ongoing, and they are considering the possibility that the woman was the victim of mistaken identity.

Locals were shocked by the event. Calum Williams, who lives nearby, heard the gunshot while making a bottle for his baby. Carolyn Pugh, another resident, said she heard the police helicopter and sensed something serious had happened. Residents mentioned that the area had always been peaceful.
