The then Campus Chief of Ram Raja Mohan Bikram Shah Multiple Campus, located in Kalaiya, Bara, Hari Bhushan Kushwaha’s murder accused has been arrested. Bara Police made public 41-year-old Surendra Prasad Kushwaha of Aadarsh Kotwal Rural Municipality-2 this morning after his arrest.
He was a deserter from the Nepali Army and a person with a background of creating terror in the community, according to DSP Prakash Sapkota, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Bara.
Surendra, who had been absconding since the incident, was arrested by a special team from Biratnagar and brought to Bara on Wednesday. He was then made public during a press conference on Thursday morning.
Campus Chief Kushwaha was shot and killed on Jestha 32 while traveling towards Kalaiya from a place called Khajuriya in Aadarsh Kotwal Rural Municipality-2. According to the police, before his death, Campus Chief Kushwaha had stated that Surendra was the one who shot him.
After the incident, Surendra went into hiding and had been living in various locations in India. Police investigations revealed that 17 people, including the prime suspect Surendra, were involved in the murder.
During the investigation, Chandramani Prasad Kushwaha, Chandashi Prasad Kushwaha, Sumed Kumar Kushwaha, Binod Raut Kurmi, Radhesh Kumar Patel, Awadh Lal Kushwaha, Chulhai alias Shravan Kumar Sah, Harinder Mahara Chamar, Brahmadev Ram, and Motilal Chaudhary were arrested. Among them, Radhesh Kumar Patel and Binod Raut Kurmi were released on bail by the District Court, Bara, while the remaining eight were sent to prison for trial.
Police reported that two pistols, seven rounds of bullets, four motorcycles, four mobile phones, two laptops, and seven SIM cards used in the incident were seized.
DSP Sapkota stated that cases related to murder and illegal possession of weapons have been filed against the prime accused Surendra, and preliminary hearings have also been completed.
