Authorities have taken a 32-year-old man into custody following a fatal shooting in Miamisburg late Wednesday night. The suspect was arrested in West Carrollton at approximately 12:16 p.m. on Thursday, bringing an end to a 13-hour manhunt, according to Miamisburg Police Chief Mike Brem.
The individual is currently facing a preliminary charge of murder, though formal charges have yet to be filed. In line with its policy, the Dayton Daily News has opted not to disclose the suspect’s identity at this time.
A key breakthrough in the case came when a couple, walking near South Elm Street and West Blossom Hill Road, spotted the suspect. Recognizing him from a social media post, they promptly alerted law enforcement.
“They saw the post, realized it was him, and contacted us immediately,” Brem said. “We are extremely grateful for their willingness to come forward.”
Police had responded to a shooting report at around 9:27 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Golden Arrow Court. Upon arrival, officers discovered 52-year-old Leslie Ross deceased from multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators determined that an altercation took place inside the home between Ross and the suspect before shots were fired. While it is known that the two had met recently, details regarding their initial connection remain unclear.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
