A school bus carrying at least 31 passengers overturned on the Garden State Parkway near Montvale, New Jersey, on Monday evening, leaving 13 people injured, authorities reported.
The accident occurred around 7:40 p.m. in the northbound lanes, just past Exit 171, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. Emergency responders, including fire trucks and medical teams, quickly arrived at the scene. Footage captured by CBS News New York showed the bus lying on its side near the roadway, surrounded by rescue personnel.
Officials confirmed that the bus had been traveling from Lakewood, New Jersey, to Rockland County, New York, at the time of the crash. While no fatalities were reported, Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali stated on social media that 13 passengers were hospitalized, with one sustaining serious injuries.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
