Dengue Ravages Koshi Province

Since mid-July, dengue fever has affected 1,065 individuals in Koshi Province, Nepal. Sadly, two deaths have been reported due to the disease, both occurring in Jhapa.

The victims of dengue in Jhapa were identified as 42-year-old Bimala Dahal Paudel of Haldibari-3 and eight-year-old Alokjung Basnet of Birtamod-4. As of July 16, Jhapa has recorded 128 dengue cases.

Following Jhapa, the districts with the highest number of dengue infections in Koshi Province are Dhankuta and Sunsari. In contrast, Taplejung has reported no cases of dengue.

Suraksha Khatri, the Focal Person of the Health Directorate in Dhankuta, stated that 80 people in Dhankuta and 70 people in Sunsari have been diagnosed with dengue. Other districts affected by the outbreak include Udayapur, Bhojpur, Sankhuwasabha, Okhaldhunga, Panchthar, Solukhumbu, Ilam, Khotang, and Terhathum.

Before the current surge, Koshi Province reported 386 dengue cases from April to July. In Jhapa, 81 people have been infected with dengue since July 16, with significant numbers of cases reported in Damak, Haldibari, and Bhadrapur.
